KP government will hold LG elections under Biometric System
The Election Commission, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will hold mock polling in four union councils (UCs) of the Peshawar district on December 28 as part of preparation to hold upcoming local government elections under biometric system. An official of the provincial election commission told that the mock polling would be held in two urban and two rural areas of the district where machine and equipment for biometric system would be introduced for the first time. Efforts would be made to motivate voters in urban and rural union councils to cast their votes using the electronic machines. It has been estimated that 50,000 biometric machines would be required for the polling in KP during the local government elections. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be the first province to hold upcoming local government polls under the biometric system. The machines, with a lifespan of around 25 years, would reportedly cost more than Rs1 billion.
